I obtain a significant source of traffic from a few sites through searches on Google images. In fact, in some cases almost half of my traffic comes from Google Images. For example, this home improvement site obtains almost half of its traffic from Google Images. The site lends itself well to Google Images because we have several photos detailing each home improvement project from start to finish.

Of course, you have to do more than just put photos on your site to take advantage of Google Images. I recommend a three step process to help Google Images find your photos:

1 - Name your photo file something descriptive that is relevant to what is in the photo. Instead of 00815IMG.jpg as the name of your file, try flashingrepairchimney.jpg.

2 - Take advantage of the ALT text in your html code. ALT=”Repairing the flashing around chimney picture”

3 - Add a caption beneath the picture. “Here we are repairing the flashing around the chimney in this photo.”

It may also help to use the words “photo” or “picture” in your ALT text and in your caption.
