I recently made the move to take all blog posts and blog pages off of a home improvement site that I help run. I had originally added a wordpress blog to the website as an experiment to see how it affected traffic and earnings. To wordpress’ credit, I probably didn’t experiment enough with ad placement and types of ads but earnings from the blog were abysmal especially when compared with the rest of the site.

Perhaps I’m just better at working with traditional html web pages. I do feel that I have more control over ad placement and am not limited to the few options provided through some adsense wordpress plugin. There’s also the duplicate content problem that I highlighted in a previous post. I am currently using a duplicate content cure plugin (which has now gone awol from its original location). This is not a good sign. Not a good sign at all. Finally, most templates constrict the available working/reading space and give viewers a very limited experience when it comes to page viewing. Wordpress is relatively new and there will be some growing pains. I’ll stick with it on other sites and keep my fingers crossed.

This is not to say that you can’t make money from blogging nor is it to say that blogging is without its benefits. I run several sites with html newbies and wordpress blogs are the perfect solution. Wordpress is so simple almost anyone can figure it out. Wordpress allows non-techies the ability to fully participate in content development of a website. Now if I could just teach them how to save their login and password in their browser, I’d be all set.
