How do you deal with these sploggers, as they are known? Well that’s where a nifty plugin comes into play and it’s already on your blog.

Akismet is a wordpress plugin that detects spam comments and deletes them after a certain amount of time. It does this automatically. The official description is – “Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.” There is even a setting in the plugins menu for configuring Akismet. You can check a box to automatically discard spam comments on posts older than a month.

To set up Akismet do the following:

Go to your Wordpress dashboard and select “Plugins.”

From there you need to activate the Akismet Plugin.

You will also need a wordpress API key to activate the Akismet Plugin.
